The Cinema Anti-Hero Rating: 3 on a scale of 10 Review Recently, I became intrigued by the concept of the anti-hero. My literary knowledge was expanded when I read Arthur Kleinman's book What Really Matters. He made reference to the anti-hero as a "perturber and a disturber", quoting another author who wrote about anti-heroes. I found this so enthralling that I decided to read up on this concept some. It seemed understandable that there would be quite a few anti-heroes in the realm of movies. This book is written to give some description to them. This British author believes all the great anti-heroes in movies have come prior to the year 2000, or at least that the genre has been defined by the earlier work. I found his choices intriguing. He gives a nice list of older and newer movies that feature the anti-hero. He gives brief explanations of what the anti-hero is. He describes also the fem fatale as the female anti-hero. He discusses war movies, horror movies, westerns, film noir and British movies, but all very briefly. To sum it up, this is a short (emphasis on brief), somewhat poorly written book, describing in very general terms the concept of the anti-hero in movies. The list of movies he believes depicts the anti-hero genre in film seems useful. This book did very little beyond wet my appetite for more information about the anti-hero.
