Urine Collection
24 Hour
Directions
You should have obtained a collection container for the
urine from a laboratory, if you have not, then please contact us. You can only
collect the urine in a container that is appropriate for the tests that will be performed
on the urine.
Steps
Pick a time you want to start the collection (make
this a day that will be convenient for you). To start the test, go into the bathroom
and empty your bladder of urine. Do not save this urine.
From this point on, collect all the urine you produce and
place it in the collection container. You can keep the container in the
refrigerator, but make sure everyone knows what it is !
On the next day, at the end of twenty four hours, go into
the bathroom and empty your bladder of urine, and add this final amount of urine to the
collection. You now have a complete 24 hour collection.
Take it to the lab as soon as possible.
Warning: you should usually not take any diuretics or
water pills while you collect the urine. I would avoid alcohol and caffeine also.
These substances can cause an excessive release of water in your urine, which may
alter the results inappropriately.
It will take a day or two to get your results back.
