This procedure may be used for other
procedures such as x-ray tests, surgery, or other endoscopic studies.
This procedure is going to clean out your lower intestinal tract.
Following this procedure carefully will result in your colon being well
prepared for whatever test or surgery you may be having. A good
prep will avoid having to repeat your study. You may respond to
laxatives vigorously, so be near toilet facilities as needed.
This prep should be performed 24 prior to your test or procedure.
You should drink plenty of water during the prep, i.e. one 8 oz.
glass at each of the times noted below. You should avoid milk,
cream or non-dairy creamer.

- Day of Procedure: Do not eat or drink
anything. Discuss with me what to do with any medicines or
insulin for that day.
- 2 Hours Before the Procedure: Unwrap the foil off the
bisacodyl suppository. While lying on your side with one
thigh raised, insert the suppository into the rectum and gently
push it up inside as far a possible. Retain it there for at
least 15 minutes, if possible, before having a bowel movement,
which will usually occur in 15-60 minutes. If you require
assistance try to have someone available to help with a bed pan,
commode, or other assistance as needed.
Warnings:
Bisacodyl may cause abdominal cramps, discomfort or faintness.
