ASA Physical Classifications

I Normal, healthy adult
II Patient with mild systemic disease
III Patient with severe systemic disease
IV Patient with severe systemic disease that
is a constant threat to life
V Moribund patient not expected to survive
without surgery
Notes
ASA Class I-III may receive deep sedation in the ER
ASA Class III-V require prompt anesthesia consult before procedures
