Differential Diagnosis By Symptoms

 

 

 

 

Trismus: spasm of jaw muscles with locking of jaw.

Local Disorders: impacted 3rd molar, TMJ arthritis, trigeminal neuralgia (tic douloureux), scleroderma or dermatomyositis of the face.

Disorders with Widespread Muscle Spasm: trichinosis, rabies, tetany, strychnine poisoning, typhoid fever, cholera, septicemia.

Cerebral Disorders: encephalitis, epilepsy, cataplexy, hysteria, malingering.

Jaw Claudication: temporal arteritis.
